Art-O-Bus
This tour starts at the Elora Centre for the Arts with an array of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres catered by Savour Elora Fergus. Here you will have the opportunity to view art from all the participants in the Elora Fergus Studio Tour. Afterwards we invite you to join us on our tour bus for an exclusive tour of a select group of local artists’ studios. At each studio you will be welcomed with amazing art, fascinating conversations, as well a great tasting wine and a few things to nibble on while on the go. This is the perfect time for purchase that longed-for piece of local art as a reminder of this memorable day. Upon returning to downtown Elora, you are invited to join us for a local bistro meal exclusive to the Art-O-Bus event.
Sensational Summer Streetfest
Everyone is invited to come and spend the day sampling all the pleasures that Elora has to offer – perusing the local shops, taking in the local scenery and sampling the local cuisine. Once you have shopped and dined to your heart’s content, join us on Mill St. West, which is closed exclusively for this event, and enjoy some fabulous live music, courtesy of Honey Mustard Jam, Ian Reid and Peter Mandic, some scrumptious “streetfood”, provided by our fabulous local restaurants, an exhilarating zumba class with the fun and funky Nerine Christie, and a foodie film at twilight as a part of the Film on a Plate event.

Sensational Elora Photography Contest
Shutter bugs have always been and will always be drawn to Elora and the surrounding area because of the unique landscapes, both natural and man-made, that this area has to offer. We invite you to come experience it too. The Sensational Elora Photography Contest will take place during Sensational Elora (September 30th – October 10th, 2011). This call for entry invites submissions of no more than 3 photographic images. Photos must be of a reasonably large file size and of high quality. Photos must be in jpg format. Categories for submissions are amateur, professional or youth (under sixteen). Final date for submissions is September 15th, 2011. Selected works will be framed and hung for the duration of Sensational Elora. The Public will have the opportunity to view the photographs in the gallery and the jury will choose winners who will be announced during Sensational Elora. Prizes will be given in each category. If you’re a photographer, no matter your skill, sign up now and make your name known!
In this Sensational Elora event you get to take a behind the scenes, self-guided tour in 36 artist’ studios over the two weekends that are in Sensational Elora. Here you will get a chance to chat with the artists and see work that is not shown in galleries, including unfinished pieces. You will visit the working spaces of both established and emerging artists, located anywhere from basements to self-contained studios. Truly a great opportunity to see how art is created and not just the finished product.
Sophie Hogan Photography Studio Open House
Here you get to join local photographer, Sophie Hogan, in a tour of her gallery and her completed collections, including her “Night Shots” series. She has collaborated with youth groups to create provocative portraits of teens, all taken during the night hours. Several of her pieces have been displayed in the Toronto Contact Photography Festival and Insights where Jodie captured first place.
Short Cut to the Senses: An international Film Festival
This event is an exciting new international short film competition that celebrates that sights, sounds, arts, foods, and physical heritage of small and large communities everywhere. Finalists’ films will be shown and moviegoers will have an opportunity to vote for their favourites. Audience votes will be combined with those of the jury and the winners will be combined with those of the jury and the winner will be announced at the Fergus Grand Theatre in conjunction with the Film on a Plate event. We need suggestions for food related movies this year. last year’s was Under The Tuscan Sun. Give us your suggestions for us to consider for the movie list this year.
Harvest Home
- Wood Squaring Demonstration
Harvest Home is a celebration of Wellington County’s lush agricultural past. Every sight, sound, flavour, scent, and touch in this event is dedicated to the theme of the harvest season. Highlighting this afternoon event will be the ongoing threshing bee, featuring threshers in action as they thresh grain the “old fashioned” way. A vintage tractor competition will be on centre stage at the front lawn where you can come and vote for your favourite. There will also be blacksmith, log squaring, rope making, quilting, cidar pressing, sausage making, and much, much more. Food and refreshments are also available on sight.
Film on a Plate
Now here is a big event you don’t want to miss. Film on a Plate has been an intregal part of the festival since the very beginning. Take a movie about food, mix it with a local chef who is creating the food in the movie, add participants for the event, and voila! you have Film on a Plate. Not only will you get to sit back with some great food and watch a movie, but there will also be guest presenters, musical entertainment,and some sensational dinks to enjoy! We have played movies such as Ratatouille, Tortilla Soup, Julie & Julia, and Chocolat. We need suggestions for this year though so drop suggestions for us to consider.
Elora Farmer’s Market
The Elora Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday from mid-June until Thanksgiving. They then pack up and move to the Raceways where they are open indoors during the winter months. The Market holds a wide variety of local produce, eggs, and meat. There is also a lovely selection of honey, cheese, maple syrup, preserves, and baked goods. During many holidays, such as March Break, special events are held at the market for the kids that are off of school, which including face painting and cupcake decorating. Sensational Elora will be offering Empty Bowls for sale along with a delicious Farmer’s Market soup created by the Slow Food Elora and Savour Elora Fergus that will fill your bowls and you stomachs.
